My dream was to grow my own food and raise my baby in the woods.

Our story

I cannot remember a time when I did not want to be surrounded by trees, living in a community focused on growing healthy food, making traditional crafts, and connecting to the natural world that nourished us. As a city kid growing up in Washington D.C., my path to find this life has taken me on a wild adventure with lots of twists and turns. Now, more than ever, I am committed to live and work toward a future that values love, kindness, and respect for people, places, and the food that sustains us.

I believe so deeply that one of the best ways we can find this beautiful future is by reconnecting to the place where our food is grown, and remembering that food is medicine. The more connection we have to the food we eat, the animals that feed us, and the place our food is grown, the better our future will be.

At Wade Creek Farm I am able to live my dream of teaching kids and adults traditional skills in a beautiful outdoor setting.

I have a Masters in Teaching with a specialty in Middle and High School Social Studies, and a Masters Certificate in Outdoor Education. I have taught children and adults of all ages both in the classroom, the fields and the forests, and in multiple subject areas including art, nutrition, social studies, English, and agricultural studies, and carpentry.

I am passionate about teaching, and particularly interested in fostering an appreciation and further understanding about how things are made, and how to make them!

I teach all camps and classes on the farm (unless otherwise noted), with lots of help from Nate!

Nate is an artist, a boy from the woods, a farmer, and a lover of chickens! Seriously. Nate LOVES chickens! As a barefoot boy on 40 acres, he is more comfortable in the woods than anywhere else, and when he is “lost” (it’s a big farm!), he is usually found by his favorite tree on the edge of the creek carving.

The name Wade Creek Farm comes both from Nate’s middle name Wade, and the creek that runs through our property, that it is impossible to get Nate out of on a gorgeous summer day (also in the spring, fall, and winter!)

Nate has grown up somewhat “old fashioned,” learning to grow veggies in the garden, milk goats and cows, make sauerkraut, build buildings, and find ways to entertain himself outside for hours on end.

Nate would love to take you to his forts in the woods, let you snuggle his favorite chicken, and teach you how to whack blackberries with whatever particular stick he is really into right now.

We invite you to “wade on in,” and stay for awhile!

“The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it and to foster its renewal is our only hope.”
